for when life hands you lemons
Nice list- Anne Frank was a tough one for me not because of her situation but because of her complex relationship with her mother. Her mom didn’t want to be her parent but rather a friend, and I think that’s kind of sad. Thanks for sharing!

Oh, definitely. I completely agree with you on that one.
I never think of Harry Potter as having tough subjects or being dark reads until someone else mentions it – and they really are.
I know what your saying, that’s how it is with me a lot too. I think that is, in some ways, the appeal of the books. They deal with tough subjects, and dark matters, without whacking you around the head with them. Rowling still makes them fun and enjoyable books.
I completely forgot about “Don’t you dare read this…” – it made a huge impression on me! Tangerine sounds pretty good as well.
Me, too. I really enjoyed that one. Haddix did a FANTASTIC job with it. Tangerine (if you can get past it’s AWFUL cover) is really an amazing book.
Interesting list. I’ve only read two of your picks (HP and Anne Frank), but there are definitely tough subjects in both. Come to think of it, most books deal with tough subjects, they just do it in different ways!

That’s a very interesting point you bring up, and one I wholeheartedly agree with. Which was why, in some ways, it was hard for me to pick 10, because, in some ways, almost all books DO deal with tough subjects, just different types.
Interesting choice in Harry Potter. I didn’t even think of Anne Frank but that was tough. kelley—the road goes ever ever on
Thanks for visiting, Kelley!
