Summary: What was once the western United States is now home to the Republic, a nation perpetually at war with its neighbors. Born into an elite family in one of the Republic’s wealthiest districts, fifteen-year-old June is a prodigy being groomed for success in the Republic’s highest military circles. Born into the slums, fifteen-year-old Day is the country’s most wanted criminal. But his motives may not be as malicious as they seem.
From very different worlds, June and Day have no reason to cross paths—until the day June’s brother, Metias, is murdered and Day becomes the prime suspect. Caught in the ultimate game of cat and mouse, Day is in a race for his family’s survival, while June seeks to avenge Metias’s death. But in a shocking turn of events, the two uncover the truth of what has really brought them together, and the sinister lengths their country will go to keep its secrets.
Full of nonstop action, suspense, and romance, this novel is sure to move readers as much as it thrills.
My Review: I. Loved. This. Book. Now, I know I tend to say every book I read is “amazing”, “masterfully written”, etc. But this is one of the few extremely rare, 6 of 5 star book reviews. So, I REALLY loved this book.
Why did I love this book? Well, why WOULDN’T anyone love a book with the perfect amount of suspense, unpredictability, futuristicness, confusion, fear, laughter, romance, corrupt government, emotion, sitting-on-the-edge-of-your-seat-can’t-put-down-fall-in-love-with-the-characters-best-book-in-the-world kinda thing?
What about this debut-novel is so out-of-the-ordinary? Lu’s writing is truly masterful. I love the world she’s created, and the strong, moral, characters she has put in it. And of course, I’m a sucker for foreshadowing. I love to be able to go back and be all: “Woah! That little thing they mentioned but I barely paid attention to was actually THIS, ohmigosh!” That’s what really gets me about a book, the intricacies, the little details, the kind of book that you can read millions of times and always learn more about. That’s the type of book Legend was.
To Sum it up: Absolutely incredible book. I can’t really say much more than that other than: READ. THIS. BOOK!
Can’t wait for the sequel! I’m sure it’ll be even better. Recommended 8+
